At Bon Appétit I lead special projects across print and digital.

Best New Restaurants

I lead Bon Appétit’s yearly Best New Restaurants list, which features a digital landing page and print takeover.

BA’s list of the Best New Restaurants of 2022 was nominated for National Magazine Awards in both print and digital categories. I was also nominated for a 2023 James Beard Foundation Award for the package, in the dining and travel category. Check out 2022’s 50 Best and 10 Best lists.

BA’s list of the Best New Restaurants of 2023 was announced during a live appearance on CBS Mornings with Gayle King. For the first time, the list’s length has been expanded to account for a swell of exciting new restaurants opening across the US. The list was nominated for a National Magazine Award for its print design. Check out 2023’s list.

American Baking’s Thrilling Next Chapter

I conceived and edited this list of nine bakeries reshaping baking in America. Each of the bakeries on this list is pushing back against rigid expectations of authenticity—and incorporating their lived experiences into their work. The results—earl grey conchas and masa-fortified kouign-amanns among them—are as delicious as they are interesting. The story appears both online and in the 2024 Travel Issue.

Food Is Queer

I was a lead editor on a 2022 Bon Appétit package celebrating queer food culture. The package contained over 15 stories, consisting of travel guides, personal essays, reported features, and more. The package included original videos, recipes, and a custom landing page. The package was nominated for a National Magazine Award in 2023. Check out Food Is Queer.

The Great Bagel Boom

I was a lead editor on The Great Bagel Boom, a Bon Appétit package exploring and celebrating the emergence of craft bagel culture across the US. The package included a list of the best bagels outside of New York, featuring 24 bagel shops chosen by BA staffers and contributors. In a reported story, I also set out to answer the question of why all of these shops are opening now, and what it means that national bagel culture isn’t looking to mimic New York the way it once did. Check out The Great Bagel Boom.
